Scared to Speak about Abortion

"When they deliver you up, do not be anxious about how you are to speak or what you are to say; for what you are to say will be given to you in that hour; for it is not you who speak, but the Spirit of your Father speaking through you." ~ Matthew 10:19-20 ~

Never be afraid to speak the truth. . .

I’m currently taking a college level speech class at a community college in San Bernardino. Throughout the semester my teacher encouraged people to pick hot and controversial topics such as gay marriage and euthanasia for the upcoming persuasive speech. The teacher really wanted heart changing issues discussed. However, there was one topic she said we weren’t allowed to cover -- abortion. Why? Because she said “No way someone is going to get up here and call me a baby killer.” My blood was literally boiling as she said this, and for three reasons:
1.  She was being biased, and discriminating against people who oppose abortion. (Did I mention she constantly encourages our class to go to Planned Parenthood for their ‘reproductive services’?)

2.  It enrages me when pro-lifers get out there and start screaming “baby killers” and “murders” because this does NOT open a gateway for dialogue that could change a heart. I’m pro-life and don’t even want to hear or talk to people who hoot and holler about “baby killers”.

3.  She scared -- actually terrified -- people out of speaking against abortion, when it can already be hard enough to talk about the issue in out present culture.
Furthermore, my teacher said that people could argue the pro-abortion position. What?!? Okay this just enraged me. I had no intention of doing a speech on abortion or anything even related to the topic, but her indoctrination and discrimination pushed me over the boiling point. I decided to dance around the topic of abortion and give a speech on something that would still have an impact on my class of 40 students, on the issue of abortion. For the last three weeks I have worked hours every single day researching and perfecting a speech on the abortion breast cancer (ABC) link.

I went into today’s class knowing full well that I could be marked down significantly just because of my topic, even though I wasn’t talking directly about abortion ending the life of an unborn child, but about how abortion greatly increases a woman’s risk of developing breast cancer since it stops the breast from further developing while at a cancer vulnerable stage. (Learn more here.)

Here is how it went, and I’ll share with you what stuck out the most to me today:

My teacher was the only one that knew the topic before hand, and when I handed her my grading sheet she was already acting rather cold, especially in comparison to her normal demeanor. I ignored it and prayed for the Holy Spirit to speak through me, and began my speech. Throughout the speech the class was very attentive and responsive. My teacher made mean faces, had her arms crossed, and shook her head nearly the entire time. Did she make me nervous? Heck yes! But I kept going and I refused to let her silence the truth of the subject. When I sat down in my chair my heart was still racing uncontrollably and I was shaking.

I’m embarrassed to say it, but I was literally terrified because of how she acted. I have only ever felt that way two times in my life. Once when a friend of mine was arrested for standing on a public sidewalk praying and passing out roses to mother’s walking into the abortion clinic and the second time when I myself was detained for speaking about abortion in a public area. My friend was put into jail over night and later fought a court battle, and won. I was kept for about 20 minutes then released because the police couldn’t find a reason to book me.

In the end, my point is that the teacher scared me so badly I literally felt exactly as I had when the police treated my friend and I as though we had done something horrible, and my life was in danger. Just like that day I was detained on the streets for having a peaceful conversation, someone (my teacher) scared me and bullied me in an effort to silence my voice from speaking on behalf of children in the womb.

I beg you, please don’t allow our pro-abortion culture to silence you. You can save lives and change hearts with your voice. Speak the truth and do not be afraid for this is God’s work and He will always take care of you.

For the Dignity of the Born and Unborn,

Timmerie

P.S. I had 5 people approach me after class wanting to know more, saying they were glad I covered the topic because they never would have known, and to say I delivered the issue well.

The Masterpiece of Fetal Development

Have you ever really looked at how beautiful the development of the human in the womb is? I encourage you to watch this brief video and share it with those who may not be aware of the child's development before birth. Surprisingly, many people were never taught about this.

1 Year = No More President Obama

I must say that I’m quite thrilled to be writing this blog. Even with loads of homework, I’m stopping to share my thoughts. . . Because today is an exciting day.

Moments ago I realized that a year from today will be the 2012 presidential election. That means, President Obama’s term will be up. I pray, hope, and believe that President Obama will be defeated a year from now. The destruction he has wrought on our country, especially on religious freedoms and the moral beliefs of so many, is atrocious. President Obama is the most radically pro-abortion president our country has ever seen. Excuse my bluntness, but there is no question whether or not President Obama is in bed with Planned Parenthood. From cross overs in staff between the president's cabinet and Planned Parenthood, to all the extravagant parties and events President Obama attends with Planned Parenthood president Cecile Richards, the president's long time romance with Planned Parenthood is no secret nor has the president ever desired to hide it.

I can hardly believe it has been three years since the day President Obama was elected. I remember praying and praying that it would not happen because it was so clear that Barack Obama had no regard for unborn children in the womb. If a man could be so clear in his position against life in the womb, then how could we ever expect him to respect any human life or human rights. As I watched the poles and continued to check my iPhone for updates inbetween my dance classes on November 8, 2008; I prayed and worried. Praise God proposition 8 was passing in California to define marriage between one man and one woman, but Barack Obama was winning.

As the night drew to a close, I wept, because I knew that Barack Obama being elected meant further destruction of life and expansion in abortion rights and accessibility. God knows we have fought and prayed as President Obama pushed FOCA, removed conscience rights, funded abortion and contraception in Health Care, and so much more. Just take a look at a little bit of his pro-abortion record here**.

Three years have gone by where we have exhausted resources, prayed to the point of tears, and fasted till we were starving because the unborn needed and still need our prayers and protection. But thank God, we should only have to endure another year of this radical pro-abortion president. But, we cannot defeat President Obama a year from today if we remain silent. We must be unified in our actions and we must pray and fast. Be educated on the presidential candidates and their positions.

We can defeat President Obama in 2012! I am certain we will. But you have to step out in faith and help make it happen. Talk to your pears and educate others because President Obama will be President no more, a year from now.

Women's Equality Day

Today we celebrate Women's Equality Day and commemorate the 91st anniversary of the 19th amendment made to the Constitution. This amendment gave women the right to vote in 1920. The Senate and House of Representatives designated August 26th as Women's Equality Day, and it is common that president release a proclamation.  I would like to highlight some of the statements made in President Obama's Presidential Proclamation--Women's Equality Day 2011
"They let their feet speak when their voices alone were not enough, protesting and marching for their fundamental right to vote in the face of heckling, jail, and abuse. Their efforts led to enormous progress millions upon millions of women have since used the power of the ballot to help shape our country."
"On the 91st anniversary of this landmark in civil rights, we continue to uphold the foundational American principles that we are all equal, and that each of us deserves a chance to pursue our dreams. We honor the heroes who have given of themselves to advance the causes of justice, opportunity, and prosperity."
What truly beautiful statements these are! I hope that our president means what he said in this proclamation, and that he will allow all women -- born and unborn -- to pursue their dreams. I hope that the heckling, jailing, and abuse on those who believe in protecting the innocent women in the womb ends.

I believe that the next generation will be convicted and will stand true to one of President Obama's last statement, "I call upon the people of the United States to celebrate the achievements of women and recommit ourselves to the goal of gender equality in this country." (Presidential Proclamation--Women's Equality Day 2011)

I ask you to comment answering these questions.

How can you stand for the equality of women born and unborn?

How does President Obama not stand for the equality of women born and unborn?

ALERT: Students are Planned Parenthood's Target

I was just browsing through a few pro-life articles and I came across 'Back to School Means Back to Work for Planned Parenthood' by Kristen Hawkins, Executive Director of Students for Life of America. Now I'm aware that Planned Parenthood has already been in high schools and colleges targeting young people with their idea of 'reproductive health care' (sex education, contraception, and abortion), but now they are amping up their sex-ed campaign more than ever. I encourage you, no matter your age, to read the article below and beware! Help educate your friends, family, children, and coworkers because Planned Parenthood does not care for the well being of these students. Planned Parenthood cares about manipulating open minded young people into bringing revenue in for them with abortion and contraceptive service.

"I am sending you this critical pro-life update because you need to know about Planned Parenthood’s deadly agenda for students in the fall. The nation’s premier anti-life organization is planning an unprecedented campaign to promote abortions in high schools and colleges across the nation. Unless we act right now, we will witness a tragic outbreak of abortions on American campuses. . ." Continue reading this article by Kristan Hawkins.

Unplanned Chapter 14, 'The Wrong Side of the Fence'

Abby is only a few days away from leaving her position as Director at Planned Parenthood and finds herself struggling while in the building where lives are taken. . .

“I looked into the waiting room and saw clients with sad lives waiting their turn for our help, and wondered if each of them was simply a dollar sign, a source of revenue, to this organization.” -- Abby Johnson Unplanned page 143

After Abby realized she wouldn’t be gone before the next scheduled round of abortions which were to be performed that day using chemical abortion drug RU-486, she broke down into tears. She decided she had to leave, and while walking out of the Planned Parenthood door, Abby saw the greeting card that sidewalk counselor Elizabeth had given her two years prior:

“The Lord has done great things for us and we are filled with JOY.”
Psalm 126:3

I am praying for you, Abby!
- Elizabeth

Abby immediately left Planned Parenthood and drove to Coalition for Life’s office across the street; where she met with pro-life volunteers and her well known adversary, Shawn Carney. Abby expressed that she didn’t know what she planned to say once arriving there. It is clear that deep down inside Abby knew she would find refuge and acceptance in that office.

From this chapter, I learned the importance of consistency and the expression of love to those who disagree with us about abortion. You never know when someone you’ve talked to may turn away from abortion. With persistence, patience, and love, abortion advocates will always know they can come to us. I encourage you to reflect on the idea of patient, loving persistence in your pro-life vocation, as I plan to myself, and always be available for those who may, one day, turn their back on abortion.

Do you know anyone who has changed views from pro-abortion to pro-life?  Comment and share the story.

Defeat, No Truth Has Been Told

Some may say that all the hard work to de-fund Planned Parenthood came to nothing when the Senate voted against the bill to strip Planned Parenthood of their $363 million in annual funding, but this isn’t the end of the fight.  I can tell you Planned Parenthood's victory email more than hurt, but this isn't over. For truth is on our side and we will continue to expose Planned Parenthood.

Although we could choose to sit back because the efforts of the last few months weren’t successful in de-funding Planned Parenthood, we must continue to stand for protecting the innocence of the unborn and the dignity of women.  Our phone calls, emails, articles, videos, social networking, and letters to the editors weren’t in vain for the truth has been told and millions of Americans who never cared what Planned Parenthood was up to now care and know that Planned Parenthood hurts women.  So I urge you to not let this defeat in the Senate and continued funding of Planned Parenthood bring you down or take you to the to the brink of giving up.  We must continue to stand for life and expose the truth.  If we don’t, who will?

In the many years I have been participating in the pro-life movement, I have never seen the pro-life movement so unified in the fight to end abortion, and de-funding Planned Parenthood is only one of the approaches to ending the devastation of abortion.  Continue to expose the truth of the hurt abortion brings to men, women, and children.  But most importantly remember that God is truth and with him all things are possible, therefore we must solidify our pro-life efforts with an abundance of prayer.

I encourage you to comment, sharing a story of how someone you know or heard of had their heart and mind changed by the recent exposure of Planned Parenthood.

Unplanned Chapter 12, 'A Holy Rush'

I found reading this chapter ironic because throughout the day I had a number of conversations triggered by Bryan Kemper’s recent blog discussing whether or not hearts can be changed to understand abortion as wrong without Christ being the center of this conversation.

After participating in and watching an ultrasound guided abortion (see my reflection of ‘The Ultrasound), Abby Johnson came to the realization that abortion is the taking of a human life, and that the unborn child involved in the abortion procedure is a victim to what she had considered only a procedure for many years.  Even though what triggered Abby to recognize the horror of abortion wasn't her faith but the visual witness of an abortion, she immediately incorporated her faith into the idea of abortion being wrong.  At church she confessed her involvement in abortion and prayed for other’s eyes to be opened to the truth of what abortion is because she saw that pushing abortion on women was not caring for them.

Now for some time Abby had been struggling with the thought of abortion as being wrong/sinful while praying and while at church, but she justified her involvement as caring for women; or sometimes brushed the notion aside.  After realizing that Planned Parenthood was in the market of making money by providing abortions, she saw that pushing abortions on pregnant women wasn’t caring for others.  In contrast, Abby began to see true care for women in the kind support and peaceful demeanor of sidewalk counselors from Coalition for Life.  Abby saw love in the nun who on her knees prayed and wept for the lives lost to abortion.  This love is what our faith is.  As Christian’s we are taught to love our neighbor.  So what is the answer to whether or not hearts can be changed to understand abortion as wrong without Christ being the center of this conversation? While I believe that hearts can be changed based on science and facts alone, we should stand for life and walk in faith just by loving and caring for one another, and we can most certainly share that this love comes from Christ.  Many hearts can still be changed by science, but more than likely someone is there to lovingly help present or guide you to the understanding and respecting the dignity of human life.

Now whether we boldly say we are Christians and pro-life or just base our pro-life stance on science we must treat others with an abundance of charitable love.  One instance where I can tell you that love and faith are overflowing in pro-life work is outside of an abortion clinic in San Diego.  Every day that abortions are performed at the Family Planning Associates off of Miramar Road, Helpers of God’s Precious Infants counsel men, women, and teenagers to protect the innocence of the unborn child and they share their love for Christ.  They pray with these people that are seeking services at Family Planning Associates, and most of the people they counsel walk away with a smile and cradling a rosary in their hands.  Every week I receive reports of at least two women who walked away from an appointment to take their child’s life.  These sidewalk counselors see the woman walking into the abortion clinic as people just like them and they treat them lovingly, with dignity and respect, not like horrible people for considering an abortion.

True faith is love of neighbor and above all this is what we must express in all of our pro-life work.  Abby’s mother, father,  and husband always surrounded her with love, and never called her a bad person for her involvement in abortion but challenged the wrong of abortion.  Don’t turn someone away because they disagree with you, but allow for them to feel comfortable coming to you when they know they’re wrong or want to know more.

"Which is the first of all the commandments?" Jesus replied, "The first is this: 'Hear, O Israel! The Lord our God is Lord alone! You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, with all your mind, and with all your strength.' The second is this: 'You shall love your neighbor as yourself.' There is no other commandment greater than these." Mark 12:28-31

Unplanned Chapter 11, 'The Boardroom'

During this chapter the true roots of the pro-abortion movement are shown, not the mask of ‘a woman’s right to choose’ or concern for ‘women’s health’ which pro-abortion advocates claim as their mission.

During meetings regarding Planned Parenthood abortion clinic at the affiliate office, Abby Johnson and other clinic directors were told it was time to get revenue up since their Title XX funding was already used up for the year.  This eliminated discounted or even free birth control for lower income women.  Abby was appalled at the thought of women having to be pregnant with babies they couldn't afford.  Abby reflected on how different things became once revenue was the primary goal, versus providing services for women.

"Birth control must lead ultimately to a cleaner race."
Planned Parenthood Founder, Margaret Sanger, Woman, Morality, and Birth Control. New York: New York Publishing Company, 1922. Page 12.

During a meeting to discuss Abby's clinic's budget goals she was told she had to significantly increase her abortion client intake.  You might ask why?  Because abortions aren’t cheap and any abortion provider brings in high dollar revenue from abortions; the average abortion in the first trimester costs $300.  This abortion quota contradicted the rhetoric that initially lured Abby Johnson to Planned Parenthood.  The original trap that Planned Parenthood of reducing abortion numbers no longer seemed a goal amongst the organization; their demand for abortions was vital to their budget.  Abby did not like the idea of generating revenue by providing abortions as the new goal at her clinic, and insisted that abortion would not take priority over serving women.

Abby wrote in Unplanned about how Planned Parenthood was born to help women in need, especially with issues concerning issues of birth control and abortion. But this isn’t the truth.  If you take a few minutes to look back at, the founder of Planned Parenthood founder, Magaret Sanger’s personal views, you will begin to understand the true evil behind the pro-abortion movement and how rhetoric over the years has masked this horrific mission.

I strongly recommend you read a few of these many quotes from Planned Parenthood founder Margaret Sanger.

"We should hire three or four colored ministers, preferably with social-service backgrounds, and with engaging personalities. The most successful educational approach to the Negro is through a religious appeal. We don't want the word to go out that we want to exterminate the Negro population. and the minister is the man who can straighten out that idea if it ever occurs to any of their more rebellious members."
Margaret Sanger's December 19, 1939 letter to Dr. Clarence Gamble, 255 Adams Street, Milton, Massachusetts. Original source: Sophia Smith Collection, Smith College, North Hampton, Massachusetts. Also described in Linda Gordon's Woman's Body, Woman's Right: A Social History of Birth Control in America. New York: Grossman Publishers, 1976.

"Eugenic sterilization is an urgent need ... We must prevent multiplication of this bad stock."
Margaret Sanger, April 1933 Birth Control Review.

As an advocate of birth control I wish ... to point out that the unbalance between the birth rate of the 'unfit' and the 'fit,' admittedly the greatest present menace to civilization, can never be rectified by the inauguration of a cradle competition between these two classes. In this matter, the example of the inferior classes, the fertility of the feeble-minded, the mentally defective, the poverty-stricken classes, should not be held up for emulation....
On the contrary, the most urgent problem today is how to limit and discourage the over-fertility of the mentally and physically defective.
Margaret Sanger. "The Eugenic Value of Birth Control Propaganda." Birth Control Review, October 1921, page 5.
